Week 3 recap XGD is closing in on their final 4 greens.  They expect to be finished with installing underground drainage on all greens this Wednesday, July 31 st  just in time for the fumigation company to be on site Wednesday and Thursday.  They will be applying Basamid to sterilize our greens profile.  At this time, I can’t emphasize enough the importance of staying off the golf course for your own safety and the success of the project. Last week was the final week with our architect Jeff Mingay on site.  He completed shaping the proposed bunker changes on 4, 8, 15 and 17 and removed the unsightly retaining wall at 7 tee.  On all four of these holes, the bunkers created a pinch point that led to agronomic challenges due to the increased traffic volumes.  We were able to gain an additional 5 yards of fairway width by shrinking the size of each fairway bunker which should minimize the problem down the road.  The U...

Week 2 Recap XGD is continuing to plug away on drainage install on our greens. So far they’ve completed 2-6, 12, 14 and 15 and are currently working on 1 green.  The rain we experienced on Saturday was a slight setback but nothing that should cause any concern.  Architect, Jeff Mingay was on site all week removing the mounds left of 2, left of 9, and right of 15.  In addition, the work commenced on our putting green expansion which will be approximately 3-4K ft  2x larger than the original which will be a nice improvement. Jeff is scheduled to return on Monday, July 22 nd to reshape the bunkers on 8, 15 and 17 to eliminate the problematic pinch points where we’ve had turf quality issues due to concentrated traffic. Putting green expansion Humps on left side of 9 going away! Our first herbicide application has taken effect and is starting to show the new fairway lines really well.  The second ...

Week 1 Update

Image
This was our first week being shut down and we hit the ground running despite some untimely rain on Tuesday and Wednesday.  Our drainage install contractor XGD started on 15 right away Tuesday morning and moved onto 3 green mid-week.  Those 2 greens have now been completed and 4 green is next in line.  They hit their stride on Thursday when their second crew arrived.  They expect to complete 9 holes by late next week at which time Duininck construction will be on site to begin stripping and tilling greens (examples of this process shown in the two images below).  15 Green: 3 Green: While XGD was slicing drainage into 3 and 15, Duininck construction was on site stripping 4 greens that will have some slight grade revisions.  1 and 13 were at a 6% grade, which would be considered unplayable with potential green speeds possible with this modern variety of bentgrass. Those grades were reduced to 3% to gain some new cup locations...

Re-Grass Project - Golf Course Enhancements

Fellow MGC Members: We are excited about the commencement of work on the Re-Grassing Project.  Below is a link to two presentations.   The first (powerpoint) is a course layout illustrating the enhancements to the course that will be part of the project as recommended by our architect, Jeff Mingay .  The second (PDF) is a compilation of the GPS grids of all our greens with green expansions roughed in where applicable.    Click here to be taken to dropbox folder containing both files. We are excited about these enhancements.  They will help ensure the success of the project and improve the golf course.  Please keep in mind that with this sort of work there can be slight modifications made in the field based on the recommendations of  architect and the construction company. If you would like additional information, feel free to contact any member of the Board or the Green Committee. Jay Ch...
