Week 3 recap
XGD is closing in on their final 4 greens. They expect to be finished with installing underground drainage on all greens this Wednesday, July 31st just in time for the fumigation company to be on site Wednesday and Thursday. They will be applying Basamid to sterilize our greens profile.
At this time, I can’t emphasize enough the importance of staying off the golf course for your own safety and the success of the project.
Last week was the final week with our architect Jeff Mingay on site. He completed shaping the proposed bunker changes on 4, 8, 15 and 17 and removed the unsightly retaining wall at 7 tee. On all four of these holes, the bunkers created a pinch point that led to agronomic challenges due to the increased traffic volumes. We were able to gain an additional 5 yards of fairway width by shrinking the size of each fairway bunker which should minimize the problem down the road. The USGA recommends a fairway width of 28-32 yards and these areas were approximately half that.
Our original plan on hole 8 was to completely move the bunker more to the right and back towards the tee. Once in the field the extensive amount of re work required to relocate the irrigation system inhibited us from making that move. So while he still took 5-7 yards away from the left side of the bunker he extended the right part of the bunker back towards the tee creating a more interesting shape.
15th Fairway bunker
17th Fairway bunker
4th green with revised left bunker, expanded green and fairway run up
Our staff is currently in the process of scalping down all our tees and fairways and preparing them for seed. The forecast this week is looking perfect so we’re hoping to begin seeding tees by Wednesday with fairways following soon after. It won’t be long and the golf course will begin to green up again!
