Week 11 Recap Eleven must truly be a lucky number as for the first time in a month we finally had seven consecutive days without major rains.  This combined with favorable temperatures have resulted in some excellent growing conditions across the golf course. We are seeing many of our greens begin to fill in and should continue to do so as we progress through the fall.  Roughs, fairways and tees are looking great! 4th green after mowing filling in very nicely Our staff is currently spending 100% of their time caring for the new turf through regular mowing as well as applying fungicides to the greens and tees.   18th Fairway getting a fresh cut  1st fairway and uniformed rough makes for a nice view back to clubhouse We spent some time last week planting our fescue areas which include the spaces between 2 nd  and 5 th  green and 3 rd and 15 th  tees along with the area behind 3 rd ...

Week 10 Recap           Hole 4 new fairway approach                                                  Hole 6 new expanded approach We are very pleased with where we are in the re-grassing project, especially in light of the extreme amount of rain we've had over the course of the last 4-5 weeks.  The course is really starting to grow in nicely and it's exciting to see our bent grass turf become a reality.    How is our bent grass growing to date, generally ? Generally speaking, everything looks to be progressing very nicely.  In particular, our fairways, tees and our blue grass rough are doing very well – largely because they were planted first.  As we have stated in previous posts there are some areas on our green approaches and our greens (mainly, 1,...

Week 9 recap As the course takes shape and grows in I thought it would be exciting to look at hole 9 to see the expanded fairway lines and the growth of the new bent grass.  The photos below show the fairway prior to burn out, then during the burn out and then the bentgrass growth.  The expanded right fairway line is dramatic and much more aesthetically pleasing from the tee. Other exciting progress has been watching the greens grow in and see the aggressive lateral growth of bent grass as witnessed in these photos below of the 5 th green. Only 6 days apart! 5 green 6 days apart.  Illustrates the aggressive lateral growth  While there is a lot of positive progress being made, it goes without saying that we are looking forward to some warmer temperatures and dryer conditions as we move through September.  This past week  was another one of relentless rain and cooler than normal temperatures. Good n...

Week 8 Recap I don’t think anything is more exciting than the saying “this is like watching grass grow” because that is exactly what we are doing. Despite the fact that August set a record for rain fall, we are still on track with our Re Grassing project.  Though I have to admit that it has certainly pushed our limits on labor and sleep. Fortunately, the significant germination we’re seeing on the greens along with our cover installations have helped stabilize our soils and minimize any major surface washouts.  All indications are that things are progressing without delay or impact on the putting surfaces.  Next week we should be able to start mowing some greens and we will begin to see how things will shape up as they green up. 5 green growing in.  We expect to be mowing greens by next week. Hole 3 beginning to grow in   Hole 1 beginning to grow in with germination covers on front
