Week 1 Update

This was our first week being shut down and we hit the ground running despite some untimely rain on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Our drainage install contractor XGD started on 15 right away Tuesday morning and moved onto 3 green mid-week.  Those 2 greens have now been completed and 4 green is next in line.  They hit their stride on Thursday when their second crew arrived.  They expect to complete 9 holes by late next week at which time Duininck construction will be on site to begin stripping and tilling greens (examples of this process shown in the two images below).

15 Green:

3 Green:

While XGD was slicing drainage into 3 and 15, Duininck construction was on site stripping 4 greens that will have some slight grade revisions.  1 and 13 were at a 6% grade, which would be considered unplayable with potential green speeds possible with this modern variety of bentgrass. Those grades were reduced to 3% to gain some new cup locations and ensure they’ll hold a golf ball.  Rest assured they’ll still have some proverbial “teeth” to them, and retain much of their original integrity (e.g. hole 1 pictured below)

Our first application of herbicide was made to all fairways and tees, including the short range fairway on Thursday, July 11th.  We should start to see those die back slowly over the next week with a second application scheduled for next Thursday, July 18th.  We will then seed the new bentgrass the following week.

Exciting times ahead for our golf course.  Another update to come in week 2
