Week 4 Recap
This week we finished the process of seeding tees on Thursday. For those who have visited the club, you’ll notice the first tee has some noticeable germination. This tee is a week ahead of the others. Once we finished the remaining tees on Thursday, we moved onto fairway seeding which started on 1 and 18. The short range fairway was seeded a week ago Monday and is also showing some nice germination as seen in the photo below. I expect to have all fairways seeded by the end of this week.
We also continued the herbicide applications in the rough. We’re scheduled to make a total of 5 applications at 3 day intervals and we’ve made 3 of them at this point. The product is designed to eliminate any poa and bentgrass in the bluegrass rough. Now that it’s taking effect, it really highlights how contaminated our rough was with these undesirable species. The only time I’d consider bentgrass to be undesirable is when it’s in the rough, and we seemingly had more in the rough than we had on other areas of the golf course where we’d like to see it.
XGD finished their subsurface drainage work on Wednesday evening just in time for the fumigation company to come and and complete their work on greens that same day. We’ll be removing the plastic covers on greens Tuesday, August 6th. We’ll then have to allow them to sit for 4 days before Duininck can return to complete their final grade and seeding. Our target seed date at the start of the project was August 15th and it looks like we’re going to hit this target.
The new tee complex on 2 is finalized as well. We extended the white tee back 50 yards to prevent balls from being played from below the hill where the turf struggles due to high volumes of divots. The bunker on the right is now in play for most golfers and the hole overall will provide a much more stern test due to the new length. It’s more important than ever to capitalize on the dainty par 5 first hole!
